It was not the start the world of Alpine ski racing wanted to see as all three of the opening three racers crashed out of the Super G leg of the Alpine Combined. When Denise Feierabend crashed into the netting and the race was halted, the decision to lower the start was taken. By the time Feierabend was taken off course by medical sled, Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin had announced that they would not be racing. Safety and fitness being more important for the two Americans.
