When the start list comprises seventy-seven racers wanting to tackle the fearsome Streif course in Kitzbuehel, this is something impressive and exciting for the future of the sport. In the week before the World Cup came to town, Kitzbuehel hosted the second tier of racing, the Europa Cup with the view of encouraging and keeping more racers in the fold and giving them more opportunities to learn about the course. This was not the full length course that the Europa Cup racers tackled, they started just about the Mausefalle and ended on the flats above Hausbergkante. This meant the racers still had to negotiate the inspiring Steilhang as well as some of the fast turns, jumps and sections that link up the course.
