Day two of the Delancey British Alpine Championships saw two runs completed without the problems encountered from the first days races. Perfect weather gave the racers superb visibility and with two training runs completed, two British athletes made the top five racers with Roy Steudle in fourth and Evolution's Max Baggio posted the sixth fastest time on the second run, improving from over two seconds out to just six tenths out on the second run, finishing a very creditable fifth. France's William Delberghe won both training runs.
Oliver Davies was the third best British racer just under three seconds out with Paul Henderson and Iain Innes just behind. Jordan Fellows was next up, just over four seconds out.
The second run saw a lot of the racers raise their game after having used the first run to get a feel for the track. With no jump on the course this year, the course had a few rollers and with the jump at the top of the course from the Super G having been toned down, this was a course that a lot of the young racers will have gained experience from.
The small women's training runs saw the British Team racer Alex Tilley post the fastest time on both runs, just ahead of Cara Brown, who trains with Orsatus. Ambition's Jessica Anderson was third on the opening training run with rising talent Yasmin Cooper, who trains with Evolution, third on the second run. It is great to see the confidence that both Anderson and Cooper are showing after both having crashed heavily last year in the speed races.
Delberghe was quicker on the first run and with training now complete, Tuesday will see both races for the girls, the National Championship and the Junior Championship, while the Men will just race the National Championship. the reason for this is that there was a deterioration of the speed of the snow as the second training run progressed. By moving the Junior Championship to Wednesday, this, it is hoped, will provide a more level playing field for the Junior race.
