Dave Ryding put himself up there with the real headline acts of British Ski racing history in taking sixth place in the opening World Cup slalom of the season. Sitting in fourth place after the first run, trailing Marcel Hirscher by less than half a second, Ryding was careful not to get too carried away. In between the two runs, he admitted that he had to take stock and relax and keep focussed on what was still required.
