Bad weather causes problems in Tignes for Children's Championships

An ambitious programme was set out for the Delancey British Children's Championship in Tignes this year with many events being planned. Slalom, Giant Slalom, double Super G plus a combi and a team event. Seven races were scheduled for five days. What the organisers did not need was the weather not playing ball on day one. A change in the programme to try and get a slalom run on day one did not happen as heavy snow fall meant that this was cancelled early on Monday morning. With more snow scheduled over night into Tuesday plus high winds hitting Tignes on Tuesday and the prospects of losing a second day to the weather is a very realistic possibility.

At the team captains meeting on Monday night, the coaches proposed that the combi was dropped from the programme to the benefit of having two Super G's. This was agreed by the vast majority of the coaches with just one feeling that the combi should be kept in the programme.

Teams are still being accepted for the Team Event but with bad weather expected for the morning this too could be lost to the elements.

With the Tignes Espace Sports Centre doing its best to keep the clubs and athletes happy by offering use of the sports hall, those that ventured out into the snow today, many did not stay out for long as the wind came up and the snow was heavy.

Time will tell what will happen in the morning!
