Buchan produces the form to 'win' Super G Training runs

Some tried to stop this innovative and exciting event not happen but the determination of a number of people allowed the racers of tomorrow to happen. It may not have been a fully fledged race but with races being cancelled across Europe any chance for the course to set up and run was to be applauded. While some argued that another BASS GS would have been more beneficial, the kids get so little opportunities to run Super G let alone train Super G, this was a great chance for them to get used to the discipline without the pressure of points. ...

While it was the coaches that made the final decision to run the training runs, the adding in of some local French racers, also gave the racers an opportunity to see how they were faring against the local racers. Hannah Loefen-Gallagher took top honours in the first run amongst the British registered racers, albeit second overall behind Laurine Lugon Moulin, an Under 14 racer. Nicole Hugec and Abi Bruce took second and third on the unofficial podium. Daisi Daniels was fastest of the British Under 14 girls with Natasha Stocker second and Anna Caldwell third.

Scott Buchan produced a determined and fast first run to win overall with Ben Bruno and Kieran Troup taking second and third overall. Owen Vinter edged out local Frenchman Loup Moy to win the Under 14's with George Case and jake Doyle the next best British racers. Vinter placed fifth overall.

The second run saw a familiar result to it in the girls race but with Alicja Krahelski taking third overall just infront of Abi Bruce and Nicole Hugec. Daisi Daniels led home a trio of racers from Evolution with Charlotte Tapsell in second and Caterina Magenes in third.

Scott Buchan won the second boys run as well with Lloyd Chapman and Ben Bruno in second and third, Kieran Troup took fourth and Owen Vinter winning the Under 14 run in fifth place overall. George Case and Tom Hudson took the podium honours in the younger age group with Vinter.

It was great to see the children of all ages training with the same intensity of a race. Super G is a great discipline and something the children enjoy yet opportunities to used to the speed are rare so they need to be taken. Many World Cup racers use Super G to improve their Giant Slalom.

While every opportunity was taken to try and make this a seed pointed event, erring on the side of caution by some, sometimes can go too far. In an age of legality determining what can happen, the local knowledge of the French should have maybe held a little more emphasis?
