Chill Factore in Manchester is set to play host to a FIS (International Ski Federation) European Indoor Moguls Championships on 13 and 14 September 2014. ...Â
The competition will feature top British and International moguls skiers and will consist of four competitions featuring single and dual moguls using the Olympic format. It is expected that the FIS event will also attract good crowds to the indoor snow centre.
Organisers hope to engage with and encourage the next generation of athletes within non-alpine nations, as well as encouraging other snowdomes around the world to work on similar projects to help grow the sport and diversify FIS current competitions.
Morwenna Angove, CEO at Chill Factore said of the world first: “We are absolutely delighted to host the European Indoor Moguls Championships. It's fabulous to be the first to hold such a prestigious event and shows the quality of the snow and facilities here. This follows the success of many of our athletes at this year's Winter Olympics when the indoor snow domes in this country were heralded a successful breeding ground for nurturing and training our young talent, the Fridge Kids.”
The FIS event will also mark the introduction of Snowsport England's "30 Days of Snowsport" campaign, which will be a calendar of 30 days involving participation events at slopes and clubs with GO SKI GO BOARD 'TRY' taster sessions, online competitions and social media promotions. All the activity is aimed at getting new people into snowsports and existing skiers and snowboarders excited about snowsports following the success of British skiers and snowboarders at Sochi 2014.
