Méribel in the heart of Les 3 Vallées is gearing up to host the The Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships (30th March to 11th April). The Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships are ... the biggest event on the British alpine calendar, and will provide the opportunity for British athletes - ranging from the under 14s to seniors - to race on the same pistes that have been chosen by FIS to host the Finals of the Alpine Ski World Cup in 2015.
The Championships, incorporating Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom and Slalom have been held in Méribel for over 10 years and this year, promises to once again provide some fierce competition between our top British skiers. The seniors (21 and over) will be the first to compete in the period 30th March to 7th April followed by the junior and children's events. This year will see 300 competitors under 16 years of age compete in the U 16 and the U 14 Championships from the 8th - 11th April, where events will follow a similar pattern to that of the seniors, incorporating Super G, Giant Slalom and Slalom races.
The Championship has in previous years, seen popular British Skiers Alain Baxter, Findlay Mickel, and Chemmy Alcott achieve success in the Slalom, Downhill and Super G titles.
Commenting on the suitability of Meribel, Maud Instone, Chief of Championship for the under 16 - 14 Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships said: "Meribel has proved consistently to be a good host for the Championships, as the resort can provide first class pistes at such a late point in the season, and their on snow management is excellent".
CEO of Meribel, Christophe Gernigigon - Lecomte said: "We are delighted to once again be hosting this prestigious Championship, which is by far one of the most important annual fixtures on our calendar.
"We have been working hard to ensure that the pistes are in good condition and look forward to an action packed two weeks in which the resort is sure to be at its vibrant best", concluded Christophe.
Visitors to the resort can secure a fine view of all the proceedings from the Chaudanne area in Méribel and after the wide spread national interest in winter sports following Sochi this year, this year's Championships promise to be extra special and the resort is sure to be lively and atmospheric.
