Hirscher destroys field in Soelden for double Austrian win

Marcel Hirscher gave the rest of the field a lesson in negotiating the difficult terrain in Soelden, Austria as he won the opening Giant Slalom of the season. From the moment that Ted Ligety erred slightly off course looking to set a time for Hirscher to chase, the pressure was off the Austrian. it was only a small error but it was enough to scrub the speed off the American and he dropped rapidly down the leader board. Fritz Dopfer, born just up the road in Obergurgl but now racing for the ever improving German Team took second with Alexis Pinturault grabbing third place. ...Â
