BSS is starting a consultation process on the possible formation of a BSS-CIT squad targeted at the Sir Arnold Lunn World Cup (SALWC). Within the 50-60 CIT meetings held annually around 15 are designated as part of the SALWC. These meetings operate in the same way as any of the other tours: there are individual winners as well as national rankings. BSS believes that this project will complement its emerging vision of a pathway for representative GBR alpine racing and BSS would provide formal recognition of athletes who race for their country as part of such a project.
In a world of extremely limited resources BSS thinks this may be a way forward for co-ordinating and celebrating the performances of many of our emerging athletes without compromising the funding of the limited number of initiatives that BSS is able to sponsor elsewhere within alpine racing.
The BSS would like interested parties to comment on the general principles of this idea as well as any of the detail that is covered in the attached explanatory document. We would like that feedback by the end of August at the latest. There is a meeting of the BSS Alpine Speed and Telemark committee currently scheduled for July 22nd which will consider progress, and there is a further meeting of the committee in early September which will make a final decision on whether to support the implementation of a version of these proposals for the coming 2013/14 season.
