Inaugural British Telemark Series race at Braehead proves huge success

British Indoor Telemark Series - Glasgow

British Telemark hosted the first of the British Indoor Telemark Series' races at Scotland's premier indoor snowsports venue, Xscape Braehead on 27 July.

The event attracted racers from all over the UK including a number of the British Team who are currently preparing for the start of the 2013/14 FIS Telemark World Cup season.

With the first run getting underway at midday, the racing was tightly contested amongst the Junior and Senior racers. Following a short lunch break the second run started and provided spectators with an exhilarating display of thrills and spills as competitors fought for podium positions.

Alongside the racing, the British Association of Snowsports Instructors (BASI) provided coaching for novice telemarkers and competent alpine skiers wanting to try telemark for themselves.

Chairman of British Telemark, Adrian Pery commented "This race represents a major milestone in the development of British Telemark, we have established a forum for skiers of all ages and abilities to learn and race Telemark and it is wonderful to see everyone here racing with such enthusiasm. Our thanks go to all who have worked so hard to organise this race and set us on the right path for the future of the sport, it bodes well for the future of telemark".
