Charlie Guest further emphasised her ability in winning a Giant Slalom in Funaesdalen. With both herself and teammate Alex Tilley placing in the top six the previous day, Guest raised her game and ... used the luck afforded her to take her 12th FIS race win of her short career to date. Alex Tilley placed 7th in the second race. With poor weather scheduled for the Sunday, race organisers took the opportunity to run a night race for the last race of the series.
Charlie Guest took the opportunity that was afforded her from the bib draw to win from Bib number 1. After her British teammate, Alex Tilley had placed fourth in the opening Giant Slalom in Funaesdalen in Sweden, Guest, the 15th best racer according to the seed list for the start list, so just scrapped into the draw. Lady luck smiled on Guest as she then drew bib number 1. At times you need the luck on your side and Guest made the most of her luck according to her coach, Stefan Moser. Leading after the first run, Moser hoped that she would be able to keep the momentum going and stay in first after the second run. With better racers taking part in the second of the three Giant Slalom races scheduled, the quality of the race was better, further emphasising her rising stock.
After the race Guest told Racer Ready "I was lucky to be drawn bib 1 today as last in the seed, however, I am just really pleased that I managed to keep up with the other girls, particularly the Swedish and Germans, and now know that I can ski the points that I made in New Zealand in Europe." Having made a sub twenty result in New Zealand, Guest will now lower her GS FIS points and move up the start list. Guest scored a result of 14.89, a career best result, bettering her 19.35 scored in New Zealand in the summer.
In the second race of the day, sadly Tilley came out on the first run and Guest was a second out after the first run. Moser commented after the first run that "Both girls ski fast and have the pace." Moser feels that with experience both racers will be able to go far but just need to relax. It is easy to say these things but with the support and experience of Moser working with them, both Guest and Tilley have huge potential and are in the game for the long haul. One day it all comes together, other days a slight mistake can mean a non result. With experience both racers should see more of the better days!
