The success keeps coming for GB Bobsleigh, especially in the 4man on the World Cup but also the Womens 2man and the Europa Cup crew. John Jackson and his intrepid crew of Stu Benson, Bruce Tasker and Joel Fearon placed 5th in the World Cup race down the same course that was used for the 2010 Winter Olympics. This fantastic result means that the team are now in 4th place in the season long rankings after three races. Under the direction of the Performance Director, Gary Anderson, the team have been getting closer to the winning teams each week and this result was the best result of a British 4man bob since 2007 in Koenigsee when they also came 4th. Anderson commented after this result that the team is "on the right course for Sochi 2014."
The team put their Movember 'taches on the line with their final run to grab the lead with five crews still to go, ahead of the famed German crew. Yet to finish fifth, this was a great performance and goes well with the sixth place that the Woman's two man crew achieved.
It is not just the World Cup 4man team that are making the headlines: The Europa Cup crew of Lamin Deen and the America Cup crew of Will Golder have been pushing the top team hard as well. One thing that can be assured is that the team selected for each race will have earned their spots. Competition is rife and this is great for the long term future of the sport. Bobsleigh has come a long way since the 2010 Olympics.
A great day was rounded out with the top skeleton racers from GB, Lizzy Yarnold and Kristin Bromley joining Paula Walker and John Jackson in winning medals on the same day. How long is it since that happened! The Winter Legacy is here....
