Yarnold takes silver in World Cup at Park City

The friendly rivalry between the British Bobsleigh and Skeleton teams is pushing both teams to better performances on the ice. Lizzy Yarnold, the junior World Champion, put in the best performance of an athlete this winter to take second place in the second race of the season. Yet it could have been better as she had lead after the first run and was squeezed off the top spot on the podium by 0.01seconds! With three British athletes racing, the maximum quota, defending World Cup Champion Shelly Rudman placed 5th and Donna Creighton placed 11th. Rudman had been in 3rd after the first run before an error saw her drop down the standings.

In the men's race after the first run Kristan Bromley was in 14th, David Swift in 15th and Ed Smith was in 20th. With just the top 20 going into the final run, there was still time for all to make up time on the leaders. Smith knew that he had the most to do after making a number of uncharacteristic mistakes on his run.Bromley moved up to 11th after the second run, Swift stayed in 15th and Smith moved up to 16th.
