First it was the news that the opening Women's GS had been cancelled due to bad weather n the Rettenbach Glacier and then hot on the heals of that, news from the Men's speed races in Zermatt / Cervinia was the news that the Men's Downhills had been cancelled.
FIS announcement:
Men's Audi FIS Ski World Cup Zermatt-Cervinia (SUI) cancelled.
Due to the lack of snow and the safety situation on last section of the race track the men’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup races in Zermatt-Cervinia (SUI) scheduled on 29th – 30th October 2022 are cancelled.
FIS will not replace the two cancelled downhill races.
The snow control for the women’s Audi FIS World Cup races in Zermatt-Cervinia will take place on Tuesday, 25th October 2022.
Warm weather and rain followed by wet snow combined to present unsafe conditions for the giant slalom and the organizers called the race early in the morning on Saturday.
Rescheduling of the cancelled women’s giant slalom will be announced over the next couple of days, according to FIS.
Fortunately the weather for the opening Men's Giant Slalom was much better and the race was able to get underway on time!
