For the winner of the parallel competition in Lech-Zürs, Christian Hirschbühl, the season ended early after a fall in the Wengen slalom. An examination in Innsbruck (Privatklinik Hochrum) confirmed that the 31-year-old broke his right ankle yesterday.
"I felt a pang when I got up and knew straight away that something was wrong with my ankle. At the finish I didn't get out of my shoe and then I knew that it was something serious. For me it is extremely bitter. I was a little hoping that it would be possible without an operation, so of course it's very sobering."

The Vorarlberger will be operated on by Christian Hoser in Hochrum tomorrow, Tuesday, and will be out for the rest of the season.
