On Monday, April 25th, almost three hundred children took part in one of the country's largest skiing competitions, on a school day!
Almost 60 schools from across the country competed in the Independent Schools Association National Indoor Championships at the Snowcentre in Hemel Hempstead.
The event, the second year of running it, is sponsored by Skiplex and run on behalf of the ISA by BISS Racing.
With Juniors racing in the mornings event, there was some hard fought placings for all of the age groups with overall winners Abbie Parker in the girls representing St Pauls C of E Primary and Aidan Urquhart from Falcons school for boys fighting off some stromg challenges.
In the Seniors event, we had slightly fewer competitors and saw Isobel Brown from Abbotsholme and Thomas Rascagneres from The Grange emerging victorious in the individual competition.
With the event being for schools, there were several teams in the running for the ISA competition, where the team prizes went to ISA schools with the mornings event seeing first in the mixed team for Knightsbridge school, with Littlegarth taking the girls title and Copthill School, the boys.
Some fast racing in the afternoon saw Salesian College retain their title in the mixed team with Lingfield Notre Dame winning the girls and The grange in the boys competition.
Schools racing seems to be growing with more and more events running and being filled in this category. This is hopefully a good sign for the future of British Ski Racing.
