With a large field, this was the first real opportunity for the Under 14 year group to show their worth this season and see who would be challenging come the end of the season. Conditions may not have been picture postcard great BUT the race organisers worked their socks off to make sure that the racing happened. ...
After two runs of Slalom two names stood out in the girls and two in the boys in the under 14 age group: Sarah Woodward and Charlie Tapsell both won a run each with Woodward just coming out ahead on the combined times. Olivia Foster was best of the rest ahead of Anna Caldwell (fastest of the 2002 year of births) and Natasha Stocker in the overall rankings.
In the boys races it was George Case who threw the gauntlet down to Owen Vinter in the first race with a commanding win before Vinter came storming back in the second race. Case had enough in reserve to win overall. Oliver Weeks took third ahead of Christopher McLew and Ryan Bloom in fifth overall. Callum Langmuir was the fastest of the 2002 year of births in sixth overall. Thomas Hudson produced a tremendous run on the second race to finish just ahead of Case in second.
In the Under 16 race Shana Danenbergsons took the overall win following a great second run where she overtook Nicole Hugec, the first run leader. Alexandra Lillywhite was fastest on the second run but after a mistake on the first run, she had more than enough to try and make up. The second run will give her the confidence to attack and know that she can be at the front of the race results in the future. Lillywhite took third place ahead of Australian Genevieve Baird and Abby Rebert just edged out Ruby Still by two hundredths for fifth place.
Ben Bruno won the boys U16 race after overhauling the pace set by Kieran Troup in the first run. Troup just held on for second as Nathan Breese almost caught him on the second run as well with an impressive second run. These three were the three stand outs with Toby Deighton and Scott Buchan taking fourth and fifth.
