Mini racing or as it is now called, Under 12 and Under 10 racing, has found its niche with the format that was first tried out at the British Indoor Grand Prix Series a couple of years ago and then adopted across the country: ... Two runs with the best time to count to determine the race winner. This great format gives the racers the opportunity to attack the course and not have to worry about coming out. The smiles from one young racer who crashed on the first run was just testamount to the fun that the racers were having.
Erin Ward won the Under 10 girls race convincingly after using bib number 1 to the best of her ability. Grace Bennett took second with Caitlin Baldwin taking third.
Matilda O'Brien survived a spirited fightback from Isla Ward on the second run to take the win in the Under 12 Girls race. O'Brien put the pressure on Ward in the opening run and while Ward was one of just three racers in the age group field to improve on the second run, it was not enough and O'Brien held on for the win. Grace Black took third in the age group.
Kayne Stanway took the Under 10 Boys win ahead of Kieran Woolley with Alexander Ogden taking third place. Woolley tried to narrow the gap on the second run but was not able to claw enough time back to dislodge Stanway from the top step. Stanway is showing some impressive turns at the moment and will be one to watch as time progresses.
The Under 12 boys race was hugely competitive and a large field of eleven racers saw Elliott Bennett take a narrow win from Joseph Thompson with Zachery Metheringham take third place after Harry Cosham took fourth with Lucas Ellis in fifth. This was close racing with less than three quarters of a second separating all five exciting talents.
