Racer Ready caught up with Zoe Gillings, Britain's leading Boarder Cross racer at the London Ski Show.  Apart from suffering from injury how was Zoe?

Racer Ready: How are things going?

Zoe Gillings: Pretty good!  I have injured my foot but it is getting a lot better.

RR: Have you been out at all this summer?

ZG: I have been doing fitness training and this is VERY hard! But it is quite good fun!  I am fitter now than I have ever been in my life!

RR: What actually happened to the foot?

ZG: I tore the ligaments in the foot jumping over a car!

RR: Ouch! As you do!

ZG: The car was not the problem! There was an uphill bit for the landing! I had my weight on the uphill foot!

RR: What possessed you to jump over the car?

ZG: It was an Audi! But that does not make it any better!

RR So injuring yourself in the course of duty?

ZG Yes!

RR Last season started off really well for you with the win out in Chile?

ZG Yes.

RR And then it tailed off....?

ZG I had a few other good results, I had a fifth and an eighth.  The fifth I should have won really, I just had two choices, neither of them were very good but I picked the wrong one!  we came up to one jump and I had been pre checking it every time before and I was pretty sure that everyone else was as well.  But I was not totally sure.  Neither me or my coach had seen every single girl go down the whole course.  I had one girl in front of me and only the top two go through to the final.  I had one girl who I knew, right behind me and less than two foot behind me and I knew that if I did not slow down for the jump, she would not slow down for it either and we would hit! So I thought I would take the risky option and not pull up!

Now there was a reason for not slowing down and that was you would overshoot the landing and miss the next gate!  So I completely over shot the landing, missed the next gate and fell on my arse and slipped a hundred yards down the hill!

The funny thing was that the girl behind me did not pre check for it either and slid off down the hill as well!  The girl who was in fourth went passed both of us and went to the final!

RR Did you make the same mistake in the Small Final?
