The final race to be held on the matting at Swadlincote saw an
impressive field and same interesting courses set. With the Grand Prix
Title in the men's race having been decided, David Ryding sat the race out,
preferring to spend the time studying and Adam Lee was also notable for his
absence. The main stars of this years series in the girls races were all
fitting fit and back to form. As the clock stood at 0.00:00 after the final runner of the second run had come down, the clock counted out racing on the matting before John Nike Leisure change the matting and without a way of fixing gates to the matting, racing will no longer occur at Swadlincote. The racing was tight, the courses, set by Phil Brown and Arrow's own Dave Durgan, were interesting and required the racers to think about how they were going to tackle this the fourth round of the Thomson's Grand Prix Series. In the end, Georgie Hunt took the top honours in the men's race after a large number of racers crashed out. Antony Heaversedge and Craig Ruddick were among over 25 racers from the 113 that started to not make the starting list for the second run. With the race being decided by hundredths, many racers tried to shave hundredths off at various stages down the course, yet they did not have the strength, power or in many cases the desire to fight to stay in the course. Too many racers felt that with one mistake their day was up and with that they skied out. Over a sixty gate slalom course on snow, many make mistakes yet fight to stay in. If racers could only apply the same desire on plastic, things could change for many! For full results click here Racer Ready have pictures of all the racers that took part in the final Grand Prix.
