It was a long treck north for some and south for others as they came to fight it out at Round two of the Thomson Grand Prix Series at Silksworth Dry Ski Slope in Sunderland.  After the closeness of the racing at Hemel two weeks prior, the Ryding and Lee combat again saw no edge given and everything fought for in the Men's race.  While Jo Ryding has been in imperious form in the Girl's races this season, the race for second has often been exciting.  Jo Ryding has claimed that she finds it hard to keep the motivation going and is now looking to beat the boys times as a guage as how well she is skiing.

After the first run, Adam Lee, on his home slope held the lead over David Ryding of a mere 0.01 second, exactly the lead that Ryding had held in Hemel.  Whereas Ryding was able to withstand the pressure that Lee put on him in Hemel, this time Ryding went first on the second run and showed the rest of the field how it was done.  The first run had been marred by a high rate of attrition that had seen many hopefuls not trouble the race officials with times for either the first.  Both courses, set by Carl Ryding,  were well thought out and with good inspection and careful consideration were possible to race with quick times.  Mistakes were common practice however, and many came to grief. Most notable was the spectacular crash of Peter Thelwell half way down the second run!

With Lee coming to grief on the second run, Ryding took top honours ahead of Antony Heaversedge and Dan Wyatt in the men's race.  Rachel Adcock, along with Alice Thelwell, has been challenging Jo Ryding all season and this was her moment to take the top spot.  With Ryding straddling a gate on the second run, Adcock took the spoils ahead of Thelwell and Gloucester's Rowan Vernon in third.

Podium winners in the age groups were as follows: Children 1 girls: Emily Evans started amongst the top 15 girls and held on to finish 14th, Olivia Parker (25th) and Shannon Taylor (26th); Boys: Dan Evans won ahead of Tom Kirton and David Askew. Children 2 girls was won by Harriet Steggles (4th) ahead of Charlotte Evans (5th) and Danielle Polley (6th).  The Children 2 boys was won convincingly by Andrew Watson (9th) from Gerard Flahive (14th) and Blair Laidlaw (15th).

In the Juniors, Junior 1 girls was won by Hannah Parker (10th) ahead of Kathryn Barber (12th) and Heidi Kynoch (15th).  In the boys Benn Hall (6th) took the spoils ahead of Lloyd Papantoniou (7th) and Gregg Bell (10th).  The Junior 2  boys and girls took the spoils overall as well!

With Ryding winning his second Grand Prix of the season, the next round at Norwich will see Rachel Adcock and David Ryding wearing the Winners Racer Ready tops.  The most improved racers tops will be worn by  Hannah Parker and Jack Jakeman from Sharks and Ravens respectively.
