The British Alpine season ended in a damp squib. The last race of the 2004 - 5 winter season started with the heavens opening and the racers inspecting the British Land Junior Slalom Championship in the rain. By the time that Ed Drake and Lynn Sharp had won the races (and with it the Overall Titles as well) the temperature had dropped and Meribel was experiencing some end of season snow! Drake was delighted to have end the season with his third outright win in Junior races. "I am really happy to have won today, it means a lot to me," reflected a wet but happy Drake. "The second run had been a bit hairy as going down 30th meant that the course had broken up quite a bit given the conditions," Drake added. Greg Samuels and Dougie Crawford had had the opportunity to wrestle the overall from Drake by with Samuels off the pace and Crawford taking second British racer and fourth Overall, Drake took the Overall prize as well. For Crawford this was a great way to end the season. Having won the Giant Slalom Title yesterday, to be runner up in the Slalom as well, was further emphasis that having spent the season with the British development Team, he has improved a lot. Crawford finished fourth overall. Crawford was followed home by Kenny Morton. The Women's race was won by Lynn Sharp who was delighted to have finished her Junior career with another race win but more importantly having taken a clean sweep of the three Junior races held in Meribel this week. Mel Piper and Pam Thorburn both crashed out on the first run and Dani Bryson came to grief on the second run. Rebecca O Neill took second amongst the British with Stephanie Ovenden third.
