Pendle sizzles to the tune of Ryding and Adcock The rain did not come as predicted but the odds of David Ryding destroying the morale of the rest of the field were shortened again! Despite the urging of many to make full use of the whole slope, the first run, set by Colin Tee, proved as exciting for the blistering form of some of the racers as well as for the spectacular crashes coming off the second of the two rollers. If ski racing was a qualitative sport then the crash of Jonathan Powell would have had the judges reaching for the description book of the tricks performed as he almost completed a forward roll before skiing away! What was better Ryding's demolition of the rest of the field of Powell's crash - that is something for others to discuss! In the women's race, Rachel Adcock had just enough strength and power to hold of the young pretender in Alessia Thomas Jackson. With no Baggio racing, Shanna Prince may have thought that she had a straight line to add to her tally of GP wins. A straddle half way down the first run opened the race up and it was Adcock who profited from the demise of Prince. Alessia Thomas Jackson gave her all and after the first run was just nine hundredths behind Adcock. The second run looked to be a straight fight between the two and Adcock was not fazed by the youngster from Suffolk's attack as she posted an even faster time. Thomas Jackson has made big improvements over the last few years but on this occasion, Adcock had the strength and power to work her skis that little bit more than her younger rival especially across the flat section approaching the finish. Having seen the results many of those that regularly feature in the top ten of races on plastic must have rued their absence. With no Charlotte Evans, Emily Evans or Kathryn Barber let alone Jayme Baggio, there were confidence boosting results for Alice Thelwell and Emily Goddard. Thelwell who has recently started training at Pendle showed some of the form that she had in years gone by! Antony Heaversedge tried hard to give Ryding a challenge and with Craig Ruddick, winner in Norfolk, also returning to the racing after having set the Club National course, Ryding had work to do yet was a class apart.
