Strong Fischer rookies achieve fantastic team result
Aubert clinches victory in familiar style in Åre
As in the previous year it was a Fischer racer who put in a
sensational performance again in the Slalom in Åre (SWE). Sandrine
Aubert (FRA) won the race with the fastest time in the second run,
beating the two Riesch (GER) sisters – who had previously dominated
in Slalom – by 45 and 96 hundredths of a second.
Poor visibility and a rutty course did not unsettle the tall
Frenchwoman. After second place in the first run Aubert went on to
risk everything in the second and put in a sensational performance.
A good team performance underscored the current strength of
Fischer's women's team. Young German racer Katharina Dürr stood out
in particular. The fourth fastest time in the second run saw her
climb from 23rd to 14th place - her third best World Cup result
ever. The other results: Nicole Gius (ITA) 11th, Kathrin Hölzl (GER)
16th, Maruša Ferk (SLO) 25th.
