Alcott Produces Season’s Best in Canada

British Alpine Ski Team member, Chemmy Alcott (27, Twickenham) produced her best result of the 09/10 Olympic season last night (6 December) with a solid 15th place in Audi FIS Alpine World Cup Super G event from Lake Louise, Canada.

Starting from bib number 45, Alcott powered down the course under blue bird skies to finish in a time of 1:23.54, 1.63 sec behind race winner Elisabeth Goergl (AUT).  The result rounds up what has been a mixed weekend for Alcott which saw her finish 25th in the opening Downhill of the 09/10 season on Friday (4 December) and 33rd in Saturday’s (5 December) race.

British Alpine Ski Team Head Coach, Mark Tilston, commented “Chemmy was happy with the way she skied as it was closer to the way she knows she can ski”.

“She skied well on Sunday really attacking the course, and skiing to her ability.  That’s the thing with skiing you can’t expect that every day so it’s really good that it did happen”.

“We are in Are [Sweden] next weekend so the result re-installs a bit of confidence going into the races”.

Results:

1st – Elisabeth Goergl (AUT), 1:21.91

2nd – Lindsey Vonn (USA), 1:21.94

3rd – Ingrid Jacqeumod (FRA), 1:22.53

Meanwhile, fellow British Alpine Ski Team member Dougie Crawford (22, Glasgow) had mixed fortunes in his fifth appearance on the World Cup circuit in Beaver Creek, USA.  Finishing a credible 40th after the first run (Downhill) of Friday’s (4 December) Super Combined race, Crawford put in a gutsy performance in the second run (Slalom) however was eventually beaten by the course.

Saturday saw the second Downhill of the weekend on the notorious ‘Birds of Prey’ course.  Starting from bib number 57, Crawford had incredibly rutted course conditions to contend with and unfortunately failed to finish.

Mark Tilston commented “Dougie did really well especially for his first time at Beaver Creek.  It is a really tough hill especially the Super Combined course.  Had he managed to finish the Slalom it would have been a really good result.   By all accounts the hill was in a really difficult condition switching from icy to grippy, icy to grippy all the way down.  He did well, it was pretty intense”.

The next leg of the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup takes the men to Val d’Isere (France) between the 11 and 13 December and the women to Are, Sweden between 12 and 13 December.
