Chemmy starts number 1 … in the snow

Ranked 30 in the world Chemmy Alcott started the opening Super G as per the World Cup Start List with number 1.  Sadly, the conditions meant that she would have been better starting after the top 30 had gone as the course cleared of the fresh snow got quicker.  Try as she might, Alcott was unable to really nail the course and like the girls immediately following her, they were off the pace.

Chemmy fought the course and the shrug of the shoulders as she came through the finish demonstrated how frustrated she was with starting number 1.  On another day this would have been a perfect start number and yet this time it was not to be.

It has to be asked why snow seeds were not sent down before the top racers went down?  The more racers that went down the more polished the course became and this quicker.  As a result the early racers, Chemmy included, were at a serious disadvantage.  The course rapidly got quicker the more racers went down.

The race itself was won by Michi Dorfmeister, her first since her change to Atomic this summer with Renate Goetschl making it an Austrian one two.  Lindsey Kildow made it a great weekend for her by taking third with Gerg and Kostelic rounding out the top five.
