Alcott opens account

Chemmy is off the mark!  After the frustration of the previous day, the joy of scoring points.  Over the full course but still not in perfect conditions, Chemmy started at four but this time managed to attack the steep and after a poor first section managed to be ninth quickest through the next section.  Sadly she was unable to keep up this form and a disappointing last section saw her drop to equal 29th.  A world cup points result nevertheless!

The pressure of scoring the first result of the year is now off Chemmy and when the Downhill’s continue in Europe she can focus on doing what she does best: Going quickly.

The race was won by Hilde Gerg of Germany, 0.15 ahead of Goetschl, Montillet, Obermoser and the opening downhill’s winner Kildow.  The closeness of the top five racers is testimony to the competitiveness of the racers these days.  With Janica Kostelic in 10th and Anja Paerson in 17th both scoring good points for the overall title, this looks already like being the most wide open Overall contest for a few years.
