Henderson takes opening race victory, Tilley edges out Bain in women's raceCallum Henderson gave a glimpse of what he is capable of with victory in both runs in the opening race of the Salomon Xscape Indoor Series. This was fast and furious racing with exciting racing all the way down the field. Henderson did not have it all his own way and was pushed hard by the talented Joe Ogden who had made the long trip up from London for the races. Henderson, on the fringes of the Scottish team laid down his marker with a determined and fast first run that left the rest of the field behind him. With Ogden and rising youngster Matt Thompson within a tenth of a second of the Edinburgh racer, it was on the second run that Henderson came into his element, winning it by 0.15 ahead of Shane O'Connor who jumped ahead of Thompson in the overall standings. O'Connor's run was impressive yet it was the run by Brad Morgan who had had a very disappointing first run to be out of the top 15, that caught the eye. Morgan matched O'Connor time wise and his time dragged him into the top 6 overall just behind Ashley Hill who was in fifth. The girls race was just as exciting with plenty of fast racing. Natalia Harte lead after the first run with Gail Ross ahead of the promising Louise Bain, Alex Tilley and Lauran Cadman. The top five racers all close together that would mean a fiercely contested second run. The second run was dominated by a great fight back by Emily Whitelock who had been off the pace on the first run. Whitelock put in a performance that pulled her back into the top five with the second quickest time. yet was strangely subdued on the second and slipped down the leader board Braehead is the newest of the Xscape venues and with the all the design improvements made since the first of the Xscape Indoor venues was opened, it magazines to conjure up some great racing.
