Salomon partners the Extreme Sport Week in Norway
Salomon has been at the heart of the ‘Outdoor Freeride’
movement over a number of years and as part of our continuing commitment and
natural extension we are now pleased to announce our partnership with the
Extreme Sport Week 2005 in Norway.
Ekstremsportveko in Voss, Norway – June 19th – 26th, 2005. During one
week, every year, more than a thousand athletes gather in the small town of Voss
at the beautiful west coast of Norway to play with the forces of nature. We call
it Ekstremsportveko in our local dialect, and it translates to "the craziest
seven days you will ever experience". The event is inspired by the four elements
earth, air, water and fire – with the last one symbolizing everything that
happens in addition to the athletic program.
Ekstremsportveko or the Extreme Sports Week is one of the
world’s largest extreme sport events. This year we anticipate around 1,000
athletes from more than 30 different countries. -- The unique thing about "The
Week" is that it gathers together beginners along with the world’s top
professionals – not only to
compete but also for training, social events, friendships and fun, explains
Karianne Finne, the event manager.
National and International Competitions, Ekstremsportveko represents national
and international competitions in BASE, skydiving, paragliding, hang-gliding,
free-ride MTB, climbing/bouldering, big air,
rafting and kayaking. New activities this year is a multi-sport competition, a
hill running competition and a free-ride competition for skiers/snowboarders as
long as there is enough snow in the mountains
surrounding Voss. Some of the highlights will be the European Swooping Tour and
a 60-Way for the skydivers. If you’re not an athlete you can sign up for "Try
It" and get your share of adrenaline, or just hang out and enjoy the festival
program.
Shows, Presentations and Concerts in addition to the many different competitions
every day, various shows and presentations will take place in or near the
festival tent, located in the centre of Voss. The
"Today’s Video" will be shown every evening, displaying the various competitions
and activities that have taken place throughout the day.
And from Thursday to Friday a total of 17 bands and DJs will
enter the four venues. Some of the highlights are Mastodon (US), Timbuktu (SE),
de Lillos (N) and Nshwa (UK).
Grassroots Passion and Commitment -- Ekstremsportveko started quietly eight
years ago, based on volunteers from the passionate skydiving-,paragliding-,
rafting-, and kayaking milieu in Voss. The event has grown each year, and has
now been recognized as one of the world’s premier Extreme Sport events, explains
Karianne Finne. She has the fulltime task of piecing the event together.
However, it is still the input of the more than 250 sport and music fanatic
volunteers that makes the event possible.
Main Partners Ekstremsportveko could not have taken place without the support
from our partners Olden, Fri Flyt, Bula and Salomon. Salomon will join us for
the first time in 2005 and we are very happy to have a truly committed outdoor
company on our team. Salomon’s goal in developing apparel is to fit to the
outdoor sports participant needs in bringing new technologies. In this way our
products do not break with the development and innovation philosophy that
prevails in the company: Authenticity, Commitment, Progressiveness. Our
permanent objective is to develop a true second
skin, using "intelligent" materials, unique ideas and clever design… so called
Advanced Skin. At Salomon, we have a unique development process, which relies on
a tight relationship with the best Outdoor riders and athletes of the world.
This collaboration results in a full range of essential sport tools, apparel and
footwear, that contribute to performance, without forgetting our unique stylish
expression. The Extreme Sports Week, pure demonstration of what Outdoor Freeride
attitude
is, represents the perfect place for Salomon to showcase our commitment to
Outdoor Sports. We are supporting within this partnership all the athletes that
are going to compete this summer on this exceptional playground. Let’s move
forward and break new frontiers.
