PRESS RELEASE March 2008 ATOMIC Team - Impressive results for 2007/08 season The ATOMIC Alpine and Nordic teams can look back on a successful winter season 2007/08. The athletes representing the Austrian winter sport brand managed to win top places in all the discipline rankings. This excellent result concludes another chapter in the ATOMIC success story. On top of the ski athletes winning top places, the Alpine team also won the FIS Brand World Cup overall and the title of Best Team. The biathletes dominated the World Championships, the cross-country marathon king comes from Norway and a Finn writes ATOMIC ski jumping history. Most successful brand and best team ATOMIC maintained its clear lead again in the Alpine skiing World Cup for the winter season 2007/08 as the most successful brand. The ski athletes in the Alpine Racing Team notched up a total of 6,305 points during the season using equipment supplied by the ski manufacturer from Altenmarkt. Even without the assistance of the injured Aksel Lund Svindal (NOR), World Cup Champion 2006/07 and double World Champion 2007, ATOMIC was ahead of the competition by more than 600 points. The most successful skiers yet again include Marlies Schild (AUT) in the women's disciplines and Benni Raich (AUT) in the men's. Nobody has a chance against Schild in the Slalom World Cup. Five victories in nine races safely placed the 26-year-old at the top of the ranking table. Raich demonstrated his amazing all-round qualities and excelled in the Giant Slalom and Super G rankings in particular. In the end he reached second place in the World Cup overall. X-Games controlled by ATOMIC At the twelfth Winter X-Games in Aspen, Colorado (USA) the skiers in the ATOMIC team dominated the show virtually on-demand. Nobody turned in a better performance than Daron Rahlves, twelve times Alpine World Cup race winner, former World Champion in Super G and winner of the downhill in Kitzbühel in 2003. In the man-to-man battle he skied to a safe victory. His fellow countryman and brand colleague, Casey Puckett, skied to an excellent third place. In the Slopestyle competition the New Zealander, Jossi Wells, almost overtook the American. In the end he was beaten by a hairbreadth and had to be satisfied with second place. Most successful team in the Alpine Junior World Championships Three Golds, four Silvers and five Bronze medals was the proud result for ATOMIC in the Alpine Junior Ski World Championships in Formigal/Spain. The Junior Alpine Racing Team won a total of twelve medals in the Pyrenees between February 23 and March 01, 2008. The ten ski athletes from five nations made ATOMIC the most successful brand in the World Championships as a consequence, laying the cornerstone for a successful ATOMIC future in the Alpine World Cup. Women Power in the Biathlon The Biathlon ladies from ATOMIC could hardly be matched in reliability and were almost unstoppable on the trail. Martina Glagow and Andrea Henkel together secured four Gold medals and a Silver in the IBU Biathlon World Championships in Östersund / Sweden. And they were virtually unbeatable in the World Cup as well. Martina Glagow won the Individual World Cup and Andrea Henkel raced to second place in the Pursuit World Cup. The 30-year-old attained third place in the IBU Biathlon World Cup overall. Marathon title and series of wins in cross-country Anders Aukland won the FIS Marathon Cup 2008 by a good margin to become Cross-Country Marathon King 2007/08. At the same time as celebrating his overall victory, the 35-year-old Norwegian also celebrated the prestigious Vasaloppet in Sweden and the Marcialonga in Italy. Writing Ski Jumping history In the ski jumping camp, the Finn Janne Ahonen wrote sporting history. As the crowning finish to his unique career he celebrated his fifth overall victory in the Four Jump Competition – something that has never been achieved before. The World Champion in Oberstdorf 2005 and overall World Cup winner in 2003/04 and 2004/05 can look back on more than 100 podium placings and 36 World Cup victories. Our successful ski jumping team from previous years will certainly be a guarantee for many more ATOMIC victories and podium places in the coming season. For more information visit www.atomicsnow.com.
