Roose and Baggio win the Inaugural Grand Prix Dual Slalom sponsored by Racer Ready In an effort to spice up the dry slope racing, it is hoped that the Grand Prix Dual Slalom will become a firm fixture of All England weekend. The racers love the dual slalom and having fought hard over the course of five rounds of the Grand Prix Series, 16 women and 32 men were invited to take part in the knockout stages of the Dual. while some were unable to take up the invite and others were injured or had to leave the venue early, others were clearly frustrated and dismayed that they were unable to take part. The sudden death nature of the racing saw a number of early casualties in the girls racing, most notably Alessia Thomas Jackson in the first round and in the semi finals Hannah Parker had the hard task of racing Jayme Baggio while Rachel Adcock raced off against Alice Thelwell - Arrows: A club with no home slope yet had somehow managed to get two racers through to the final stages! Baggio and Adcock won through leaving Parker and Thelwell to contest the third place race off. It was fitting that the final saw the Grand Prix Series winner against the All England Champion to decide top billing and in the end Adcock was beaten by Baggio with Thelwell taking third. In the men's competition, the big shock was Marc Telling running out of steam and losing to one of his trainees in the opening round, Ashley Hill. The Quarter Finals saw Lloyd Papantoniou succumb to Dan Wyatt in the quarter finals and Craig Ruddick saw Paul Telling go past him and knock him out. Stuart Riches got the better of Pete Walters who had knocked Benn Hall out in the previous round and in the final quarter final Andy Roose beat Matt Bruton. Telling raced against Riches in the first semi final and Roose lined up against Wyatt in the other. The racing was hard and fast and yet it was Riches and Roose that won through to the final leaving Wyatt and Telling to contest the third place race off with the former Newcastle University President, Wyatt winning. Roose won the final to add to the successes he has had on the Silksworth slope. The Dual Slalom proved popular with the racers yet it was disappointing that the organisers did not afford Racer Ready the opportunity to present the winners with the pictures they had won at the allotted time. Racer Ready would like to thank all the marshalls and support staff who helped out on the day for their enthusiasm and support! |
