GOING FOR (WHITE) GOLD AT CHILL FACTORe

Chill Factore, the Alpine village due to open just outside Manchester in November, has been chosen as the UK’s championship skiing centre.

It will be the official indoor training headquarters for Snowsport GB, the body which represents competitive racing and snowboarding at international level.

Chill Factore has already been chosen by the British Disabled Ski Team (BDST) as the UK venue for its group training ahead of the Vancouver 2010 Paralympics, and the national ski and snowboard charity Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK) has also announced that it is to operate its north of England HQ from the venue.

Operations Director Andrew Lockerbie said: “This is fantastic news, and confirms what we have always set out to be – the finest indoor real snow snowsports facility in the country.

“With the UK’s top ski teams now due to train here, we are firmly established as the premier snowsports centre of excellence.  The vote of confidence that these prestigious national bodies have given in choosing our venue as their indoor training centre is testament to the quality of our excellent facilities.”

Mark Simmers of Snowsport GB said: “We are delighted that our world class skiers will have access to such a superb venue. The partnership will contribute to the future success of the UK snowsports teams, with our members able to train in year-round perfect conditions before they hit the mountains and compete at international level.”

Chill Factore will boast the UK’s longest and the world’s widest real snow, indoor ski slope. The main slope will be completely unobstructed, with the two ski lifts suspended from the ceiling rather than from towers.

The facility will be home to the best qualified instructing and coaching team in the country, led by Andrew Lockerbie, one of Europe’s top ski instructors and Chairman of the British Association of Ski Instructors (BASI). The teaching and coaching programme is designed to appeal to all and will be unparalleled in the UK, with world-class tuition available right up to Olympic standard.

Global mountain sports giant Salomon will supply all ski and snowboard rental equipment and host events and promotions. They will operate their only UK Test Centre from the venue, meaning visitors can be the first to try out the latest technology and equipment.

The £31m Alpine village is nearing completion next to the Trafford Centre, just off junction 10 of the M60. It will be a major social and sporting addition to the region’s top attractions, providing a total, year-round, weather-reliable destination.

The Alpine village will have an unrivalled mix of speciality shops, bars and restaurants bringing the total ski resort experience to the UK for the first time.

Panoramic windows and balconies will provide stunning views for non-skiing visitors across the slopes, the toboggan run and the separate children’s snow-play zone featuring igloos, ice-castles, animatronics and slides.
