Chemmy Alcott skis the famous Hahnenkamm race track in Kitzbühel

The race course in Kitzbühel is ready for the race and Chemmy Alcott was one of the first to ski down the hill and get a feeling what it must be like to take those turns with race speed.

Chemmy, who is staying in nearby Lofer with the British skiteam had a day off and took the chance to take a look at the famous downhill track in Kitzbühel. Together with the team of the organising committee and the FIS inspector Peter Krogoll, she skied down the Streif for the first time in her life. “It was fantastic to have the opportunity to inspect the famous Streif in race conditions just 10 days before the Downhill race. While slipping down the course I got really excited about the turns and the steepness. In some sections I got a good feeling about how much fun it must be to ski down this hill in full speed. For me fear is a big fun factor and this hill has a lot of fear factors. At the end I have to be honest and have to admit, that I would only ski parts of the course in full speed. Section like the combination start and Mausefalle, as well as the Steilhang and the Hausbergkante would be definitely to challenging and too difficult for me. It would be great, if we could ever have a women´s race here in Kitzbühel again, but it would have to be a very different course setting, but for a Super G we should be fine.” said Chemmy, when she came down to the finish area.

Asked about the course conditions Chemmy said: “The course is in phenomenal shape. Enough snow everywhere and the guys did a great job preparing everything. With the watering, which they will start today the course will be rock hard until next week. My respect for the guys, who ski this hill has grown a lot.”
