After a break of a few years the British Indoor Championships made an exciting return to the Summer calander. Following on from the hugely successful Xscape Indoor Summer Series, sponsored by Salomon, the British Indoor Championships attracted some of the top racers from both the plastic arena and the snow arena as well as from across the UK! as word spreads the races will attract more interest but with the original idea of providing each racer with there own long sleeved t-shirt to use as their start number, this was an exciting event! The racing itself was fast, furious and exciting. After her unexpected second place in the final indoor race, Jo Ryding struck back and took the spoils ahead of Emma Wigman and Kayleigh Hill. In the Men's race, Antony Heaversedge, David Ryding and Junior 1 racer Joe Ogden fought out a tight race. Ryding, dominant in the Grand Prix Series, looked to have the edge but Ogden, dominant in the Indoor Series, edged him out with a fantastic second run to leave Heaversedge in third. Ogden saw off the likes of many of the more fancied racers including the dominant force of Children's racing last winter, TJ Baldwin. With three slopes running races next year and the British Championships heading to Xscape Glasgow, indoor racing is here to stay. The appeal to the racers of the next best thing to snow can only be of benefit to the sport as a whole. From small beginnings great things happen! The race was taken seriously by many racers looking to compare themselves with others yet the appearance of the editor of Racer Ready in his kilt may have seriously affected the concentration of those following him! It was not a pretty sight (and as for his skiing...) yet sadly was captured digitally! Congratulations to all who raced and many thanks to the Lions Ski Club for organising a great event. This show case event has captured the imagination of many and with the smiles of the race winners in all the age group testifying, cups and titles as well as support from the industry mean a lot to the racers!
