The always popular figure of Axel Lund Svindal was in Bormio, not quite chomping at the bit to race but pretty close to it. Racer Ready spoke with him and this is what he had to say:

Question: It was good to see you back at a course with your ski boots back on. How do you feel now? How close are you to being ready to race again?

ALS: I took my time to make sure that everything was ready, I took it step by step. Skiing is one thing, you work on your technique, you work on a lot of things physically, you do a lot of skiing so that you are in good shape. I was in bad shape at the beginning of January, so that is what i have been working most on - getting my physique back! It has been going really well, I would say that I am not in perfect shape but that I have a good base where I can be as good as I was in Solden last year, or better when I get there next season as that is the goal. I have been skiing a lot, no gates so far because I do not feel so rushed, If these were the Olympics today then maybe I would have rushed it a little more. I have just been making sure that everything is the way it is supposed to be so that I do not have any problems later on. Luckily everything is good! I do envy the guys who are here today fighting for the titles, it is not the same watching as you miss the excitement! Sometimes you are a little nervous and wish you could go home instead of doing the race but when you cannot do it at all you know how much you like it. I am glad to be here!
