Lasse Kjus rolls back time to win … again!

When the wheels came off the Bode Miller bandwagon when he crashed out on the first run, the rest of the field woke up and the race was on to take the victory.  Christoph Gruber took the lead after the first run but he was not able to transfer this into victory.  Two Norwegians (Svindal and Kjus) and two Italians (Blardone and Rieder) chased the time set by the Austrian followed by three more Austrians (Knauss, Maier and Raich).  With sunny conditions and the American out, this was time for the rest of the Giant Slalom field to score points.

Kjus nailed the second run and this was the first Norwegian victory since 1999.  "It's really important," said Marius Arneson, the Norwegian team's speed coach. "We haven't won a GS since he won the GS in 1999...With Aksel fourth and Lasse first, we are back in GS, and that's really important for Norway."  With Maier scoring his first GS podium since his motorcycle crash, this was a race for the older racers!  Who said that racing stopped after a racer turned 20?

The Austrians managed to load the top five with Maier finishing second, Raich third and winner of the Super G, Stephan Goergl in fifth.
