Rachelle Rogers starting to look forward to the tech races
Rachelle Rogers was happy with her performance in the Super G yet knew that the tech races later in the week are what she is building up to. “Considering the amount of speed training I have done, I am pleased that I got down,” she explained the following day. The whole event has been so “exciting that I keep forgetting what day it is,” she explained after the Super G section of the Super Combined. Sadly Rogers came out of the first part of the race and so was not able to take part in her favoured slalom. This was not going to worry her and ruin her Youth Olympic experience.
Rogers is bubbly yet determined. She is not just here for the ride and wants to enjoy the experience with some good results. While the Super G is not her favoured discipline, she is an accomplished Slalom racer, getting the first race out of the way is something that she is happy about a sit means she can now relax and get on with the business of the Youth Olympics.
While the Super G “could have gone a lot better but I finished and considering the amount of Super G training that I have done, I am pretty pleased with that.” How did she find her first experience of the Youth Olympics? “Yesterday there were cameras all over the place and I am not used to that at all. Now I have got the speed out of the way and hopefully I can do really well in the tech races.”
Having come out of the Super G section of the Super Combined, there would be no Slalom for her. What did she think about that: “That is ski racing. If you come out, you come out,” she explained.
“The experience of the event though is amazing,” she explained. “The opening ceremony was a lot bigger than I expected it to be and then obviously getting used to everything like the number of people here” has amazed Rachelle.
Rogers hopes to be starting in the top 15 for the slalom but “we shall see,” she explained. A rest day is in order for the morning and she hopes to be able to spend some time enjoying the experience with her parents!
