How are the next generation racers getting on…?
So the lack of coverage on Ski Sunday of British racers does not mean that there are none coming up the ranks. There is lots to report on the Junior members of the British team and there are some great results being scored further down the FIS races. Already this season, Alex Tilley has scored a race win in a CIT level Giant Slalom race in Solda, Italy. In the process she scored her best FIS result in Europe, a promising 35 point result to add to a 38 point result she scored in New Zealand in the summer. With a 32 point result scored in the summer in Slalom down in New Zealand, Tilley will be looking to Improve on her next best slalom result this season, a 52 scored in Solda.
Travelling with Tilley is another of the promising Juniors, Charlie Guest and it seems that the success one gets is rubbing off on the other. No sooner had Tilley taken a win and a runners up spot in Solda then Guest posted a runners up place in the Slalom and scored a 42 point result in the process to go with a 52 point result a couple of days before in a FIS race in Klausberg.
On the boys front Nicholas Moynihan has been taking advantage of good snow in Canada and has been scoring some impressive results in Panorama. Just prior to Christmas in a double Slalom and GS series of FIS races, Moynihan scored some great results in slalom (44 and 53) and in Giant Slalom (52 and 65). With a 50 point result scored in the South America Cup in the summer, Moynihan is putting in some quality results.
With Moynihan in Canada, another of the top British Juniors has been off to Norway and Sweden in search of some good racing. While the racing has been sketchy in some places, Jack Gower has broken the 40 point barrier with a 37 and 38 in Giant slalom and has scored some impressive Super G results as well (a 75 and 81 point results).
Often missed off the news is Jai Geyer. Troubled with injury last year, Geyer is making a come back this season and has put in two solid results in the week before Christmas with a 50 in Slalom and a 55 in GS. Geyer will be looking to improve on these as the season progresses. Roy Steudle is also fast making some strong results with a 55 and 60 to his credit this season so far in Giant Slalom. Brad Morgan is starting to benefit from training with the GB team and with a 57 and 63 to his name, it should not be long before he starts recording results below 50 to add to his 45 in the Super G in New Zealand in the summer.
Another racer putting in some good runs to get his points down is Ashley Hill. Hill has a best FIS points score of 50 and has started this season with his best results in the 57 to 60 range in slalom.
Rob Bullen ended last season with some impressive results in the high 30’s and low 40’s in Slalom and will be looking to get back to that form now he is also training with the GB Team. To date he has not quite matched his form of last season yet has only raced in two races back in Europe this winter.
There are a lot of British racers out there hoping to make the results that will get them further up the tree. If you are able to help them, get in touch with British Ski & Snowboard and they will try and help you.
Have a Happy New Year…
