Vonn makes it three from three in Lake Louise, Fenninger second,
Mancuso third
Lindsey Vonn made it a clean sweep of the three races in Lake Louise
with victory in the Super G race that wrapped up the racing this
weekend. It was the perfect tonic for the American after what has
been a self admitted trying time for her.
Having completed a hat trick in Haus in 2009 once before,
Vonn ““couldn’t
be happier, I didn’t really expecting while coming here. It was a
tough week and this is exactly what I needed. A hat-trick is a rare
thing to do.” Anna Fenninger made it a double success on the podium
for the HEAD World Cup Rebels by taking second place ahead of
Volkl’s Julia Mancuso.
The margin of victory may not have been as emphatic as in the
Downhill races but Vonn felt like she had “skied better the previous
days but a win is a win.” Vonn is a strong character when has
her race skis one and never gives up: “I didn’t feel all that strong
on top, but really attacked at the bottom and ended up having an
amazing day.” It is this determination that has seen her now
have 45 World Cup wins in her career.
“When I was younger, if you would have asked me if I would have had
this many wins, I would have said you were crazy,” said Vonn.
“This is far beyond what I
expected to do in my career, I feel extremely lucky to do what I
love to do every day.”
After the recent health issues, Anna Fenninger made sure that she
was on the podium for the first time this season. “It was a really
good run, especially in the steep section,” Fenninger said “I had
some really good speed. I’m very happy with my run, it was perfect.
While Lindsey was behind in the steep section, for a moment I though
maybe I could beat her, but in the flats she is so strong and she is
the best at the moment so she deserved to win.”
To be less than two tenths behind Vonn when she is in this kind of
form; is impressive.
“I started out well and charging. In the middle I gave it too much
respect where it breaks over and the course gets dark and you get a
little nervous so without wanting to make any mistakes, I gave up
some time there,” said third placed Mancuso of her run. “The rest
was just a lot of fun, it was a really nice set.”
Next up it is off home for Lindsey Vonn and the World Cup tour as
they make a rescheduled trip to Beaver Creek:
“I am so excited to go to Beaver Creek, it’s going to be such an
awesome race, to finally be able to race at home, five minute from
where I live and to have the support of my friends and family there
is going to be amazing,” said Vonn. This win takes Vonn to
within one of the record held by Katja Seizinger on the all time
list, 16 wins.
