Vonn strikes again: Win number 44
They say lightening does not strike twice in the same place. Well
they are wrong as Lindsey Vonn put the case for Lake Louise to be
renamed Lake Lindsey with another emphatic victory in the second
Downhill scheduled for the Canadian stop on the World Cup Tour. This
was Vonn’s tenth win in the resort since she made her World Cup
debut in 2004. Marie Marchand Arvier took second with HEAD’s Lizzi
Goergl taking her third podium of the year in third.
Despite the flat light, Vonn was faster in the second race but this
was mainly due to the calmer winds on the course.
Asked what made Lake Louise so special for her Vonn admitted
that she has “always
had a great feeling in Lake Louise, the snow, the way the mountain
feels.” said Vonn before adding “I just tried to do what I did
yesterday, I tried to ski aggressively and execute the line. It was
tough conditions again today, the light was flat, it was hard to see
some of the bumps. I’m really happy to come away with the win.”
“I was happy with my run today, I made a few small mistakes, it was
tough. There was a bit of tail wind at the bottom, which was pushing
me around a little bit. There was also some flat light which made it
a lot more difficult today than yesterday,” Vonn said. Such
is her ability that it was hard to see her struggle with the wind as
she came down the course.
After crashing in training and having her confidence dented, Lizzi
Goergl’s third place was a real morale booster for the HEAD World
Cup Rebel: “I’m really happy, this was a big fight for me today. I
don’t feel good, I still have a headache but my physio and my doctor
helped me a lot, so i’m happy for them and for me. I also had a
tough race yesterday, concerning my confidence, it was good for me
just to go and do the run. Today was so much better, when you crash
you have to get up on your feet and do it right the next day.
Lindsey is in her own league now, and that’s just the way it is,” a
happy Goergl said.
