Soelden, Austria. Chemmy Alcott overcame the inconvenience of smearing her goggles as she prepared for the start of the first run in the

opening race of the Women's World Cup to place 11th.  Alcott, who had been nervous coming into the race as the rumour mill was working overtime concerning how fast she was skiing, was into her stride quickly despite the aggravation caused by having to change her goggle lenses in record time so near to the start. In perfect conditions, blue sky and hard piste the World Cup is now off and running!

Coming into the race Alcott admitted that this would be a hard race. Starting 22, just behind three time Soelden winner, Tina Maze from Slovenia, Alcott is now mixing it with the big girls. Following training with the German girls team over the summer, Alcott is relishing this challenge and despite falling over on her way to the portaloo, Alcott felt that "this put me in poor step for the top." The conditions at the top were perfect she admitted and then as you came over the top of the ridge, the light changed, "it is so bright and then so dark" Alcott admitted. During the ten gates that are on the steep after the short flat section at the top, Alcott attacked and gave it her all.

As she came through the bottom section she admitted that she was able to make up some time that she felt she had lost on the opening section. Reflecting on the run Alcott admitted that 11th place was a fair position and what was even better she revealed was "that she "was not that far out at all (0.87 behind fellow Voelkl racer Tanja Poutiainen from Finland). With five racers on Voelkl in the top 11 first run finishers, Alcott seems to have justified her decision to move to the German brand!
